Tony Geeves
Tony Geeves MA. Dip.Ed. BFA is a former professional dancer
who now holds degrees in Anatomy, Neurology and Physiology, Early Childhood
Teaching, Psychology and Creative Arts Psychotherapy.
A frequent user of the Pilates method during a long international dance
career and later training with Dance Medicine Australia honed Tony’s
skills as a Pilates instructor. Tony is now an active partner in Pilates
& Physio on Collingwood in Brisbane after working in the field for a
number of years.
Tony has taught at primary, secondary and tertiary level. He has lectured, given workshops and seminars at Conferences and Universities in UK, France, USA (NY), Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Finland and been guest teacher for numerous professional dance companies.
The author of 'Safe Dance I and Safe Dance II', Tony received a Australian national award for "Services to Dance" in 1998 which cited his "unique and pioneering work with the Safe Dance project which has had such an impact in Australia upon teaching methods and professional practices in dance".
Jenny Birckel
Jenny Birckel is an APA Sports Physiotherapist and has worked with many types of sporting teams over the years including rugby, netball, cricket, ice skating, gymnastics, soccer, Jenny was the physiotherapist for the Australian Women’s Rugby Union tour to Holland, and has worked at the World Gymnastics and World Junior Ice skating when these were held in Brisbane. Jenny was a Sydney Olympic physiotherapy volunteer at the sailing.
Jenny has worked with dancers for many years and has been involved in assessment of Queensland Dance School of Excellence (QDSE) students on an annual basis since 1991. Her area of interest is particularly the adolescent dancer and assisting young dancers to strengthen any areas identified as being a weakness in their form.
Jenny’s interest in Pilates began in the early 1990s when she was
developing strengthening exercises for the QDSE students. She worked with
floor Pilates initially and then went on to train with Dance Medicine Australia
and open an equipment based studio in 1998. She has continued her research
and development of client specific assessments and exercises programmes
that can offer a safe form of exercise for a wide range of clients
Jenny also has considerable experience in worksite injuries, rehabilitation
and worksite task analysis.
Emma Buosi
Emma Buosi graduated in Sport and Exercise Science in 2004 before completing her Masters degree in Clinical Exercise Science.
Emma has a love of sport particularly netball and competitive outrigger canoe racing, this has lead to her keen interest in sports rehabilitation. She has also worked within the industrial rehabilitation area.
Emma trained with the Pilates Institute of Queensland in Clinical Pilates prescription and rehabilitation.
cybèle cheers
A native of Alberta, Canada, Cybèle came to Australia 6 years ago to reside in her mother’s home town – Brisbane. Cybèle is a graduate from the University of Queensland achieving a bachelor of physiotherapy with honours.
With a background in dance commencing ballet at the age of 3, Cybèle continued her education with the Alberta Ballet School and progressed into the professional company at the age of 18. Further credits to her professional career include contracts with San Diego City Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Austin Lyric Opera, and Ballet Austin where she began solo roles by the age 22. Performing in Canada and the USA, further professional stage experience includes singing with the opera and musical theatre.
Cybèle also offers her background in remedial massage as an asset to her physiotherapy.
Alecia Ruutz
Alecia completed her Bachelors in Applied Science (Human Movement Studies)
in 2006. Her background has been in rehabilitative exercise prescription
and programming and fitness health and well being. She has a love of sport
and exercise, particularly martial arts, running and rock climbing. She
is currently studying for her masters in Clinical Exercise Science.
